Fishing Notebooks: Give the Gift of Memories

When your husband is a devoted fisherman, you get used to sharing him with his favorite pastime. You know how to make space on the wall for the record-setting fish he wants mounted. You're on a first-name basis with the local taxidermist, and you've got his number on speed dial.

Fishing notebooks were created for fishermen just like your husband. Before he jets off on his next fishing trip, consider giving him one as a gift.

Why a fishing notebook is a perfect gift

A fishing notebook is basically a journal for fishing trips. If you've ever listened to your husband grumbling because he can't remember where he was when he caught eight fish in an hour, then a fishing notebook would be a perfect gift. It will allow him to keep track of everything, from where he was and the lures he used to the weather and water conditions.

If fishing runs in your family, a fishing notebook can also be a powerful keepsake. You'll have the records of where and when your son caught his first crappie and all the details of the last fishing trip that spanned four generations. Old pages can even become pre-made scrapbook material. Even if your husband uses it as an informational resource, you can rest assured that memories will be written in the pages as well, saved for posterity.

What to look for in a fishing notebook

To get a fishing notebook that will meet all of your favorite fisherman's needs, look for these traits.

1) Rainproof pages. Fishermen are out on boats for all hours of the day, and the weather can be notoriously unpredictable. You don't want a fishing notebook filled with basic white notebook paper that will smear and turn to mush at the sign of a little moisture. Rainproof pages will stand up to the wettest places, and you won't have to worry about notes turning into illegible blurs.

2) A space for notes and a form for details. A fishing notebook isn't frilly. It should be functional and meet a fisherman's every need. It's a good idea to have one form-like page for detailed breakdowns and nitty-gritty information, and one blank, lined page for general notes.

The detailed breakdowns should include everything your husband could possibly want to record: where he were (which river or lake, GPS coordinates or latitude and longitude, and the weather conditions), the time of day, what equipment he used (lures, line weight, rod), who he was with, the water temperature, and, of course, what fish it was and how much it weighed.

It will also be helpful if the fishing notebook pages are perforated, with holes punched in the side so they fit nicely in a corresponding binder. The perforations will let you remove the paper from the notebook without leaving behind those annoying paper bits, so you'll have nice, neat pages for a scrapbook. It'll also help your husband, because he'll be able to save the information from his previous trips in a binder rather than keep them all in the notebook.

3) Although it's not necessary, an all-weather pen can be a very convenient addition to a fishing notebook, and a fun gift idea. These pens are rated to write in extreme heat and extreme cold, and you can usually find one that's able to write upside down and on wet paper. A pen like this works well for a fishing notebook, because you never know when or where fishermen will need to take notes.

Start collecting fishing memories today

It's time to make fishing more than a vacation. With a fishing notebook, your husband will be able to log every detail of those memorable trips, which gives him information for future reference, and gives you a record of memories to share his passion with other friends and family. Find the perfect fishing notebook, and start collecting those memories.

Three Fun Camo Gifts for Your Favorite Huntress

Once upon a time, hunting was something that only men did. Since the dawn of time, they've been the ones sneaking up on buffalo, deer, turkeys and the ducks.

Not so anymore! In recent years, more and more women have taken up hunting. According to a survey by the National Sporting Goods Association, the number of female hunters increased 75 percent between 2001 and 2005. In fact, women now account for about 15 percent of the shooting, hunting and firearms marketplace.

This means that millions of men across the country now share their favorite pastime with wives and girlfriends.

Embrace your shared interests! Make her Christmas this year with some fun camo gifts that she'll never expect.

Camo bikinis

It may be a little cold outside now, but what better way to anticipate the eventual return of warm weather than with a camo bikini? And let's not forget that she'll need something to wear in the hot tub. With string bikinis and halter/boy short combos, you're guaranteed find a swimsuit that suits your girl perfectly.

Camo lingerie

Admit it. You think it's awesome to see your woman all dressed up in her hunting camo. Now imagine if you could bring it into the bedroom and make it a little more…revealing. That's where camo lingerie comes in. Camo baby dolls, camo camisoles and camo thongs bring your love of the outdoors into the bedroom in a fun new way that both you and your huntress will enjoy.

Camo loungewear

If your favorite girl would rather have something that's cute and comfortable (and less revealing), camo loungewear would probably be the way to go. A cute little tank nightgown, or a T-shirt paired with camo shorts or pants could give her some nice camo clothing that she could actually take into the woods.

You love going hunting together, so bring that passion somewhere unexpected! Surprise her today with a fun, sexy camo gift.

Go Joe! Make Your Bedroom an Army Retreat

It's 125 degrees in the shade. You and your platoon are running low on water and your meals for the last week have been scorpions and roasted roaches. Thirty pounds of gear, including the guns and hand grenades, haven't gotten any lighter after a month of desert maneuvers. You haven't had a bath in weeks, and it's been months since you've even seen a real bed. You have sand in your underwear.

But you can't quit. Quitting is for wusses. The safety of America – no, of the entire world – depends on your squad completing this vital mission, and that's exactly what you're going to do.

Of course, then your mom knocks on the door and tells you it's time to quit playing in your fort and that your friends have to go home. So, saving the world will have to wait until tomorrow after school.

Create your own military retreat

Batman and Spider-Man may have the superhero comic world cornered. But when it comes to real-life superheroes, few things beat out the military. These men and women go overseas for months at a time, leaving behind family and friends, all to make sure that we can sleep safely at night.

Why not turn your bedroom into a military retreat? Instead of just imagining you're there with couch cushions and some blankets, you could have real military camo on your bed, real mosquito netting on your windows, and cool Army posters on your walls.

You'll have to get your parents' permission first, but here are just a few ideas of how to make your bedroom into the best military retreat ever.

Put the camo on your bed

Camo bedsheets can also double as tent materials in a pinch. Many stores will carry the kind of military camo bedding you want, both for sheets and a bedspread. You can also get military camo pillows, like a bazooka pillow that's more than 3 feet long. Imagine having that to sleep with! Your bed will be so decked out, it would put G.I. Joe to shame.

Get military camo on the windows

"Drapes" sounds like something a girl would worry about, doesn't it? However, with some ideas, you can have a cool window while making your mom happy at the same time. Remember, visibility is an important aspect of military maneuvers. If your windows aren't covered, you aren't covered.

When you're looking for military camo bedding, also look for military camo drapes. If you're having trouble finding some, see if you can use material like mosquito netting or tent canvas to dress up your windows the way you want.

Add some cool stuff to the walls

See if you can talk your parents into actually letting you paint your room. Instead of boring white walls, you could have ones that are military green! It'll be a lot of work to paint, though, so you'll probably have to spend a night on the couch while you're waiting for the paint to dry.

Another cool thing you could do is create a shadow box for your room. If you have any relatives in the military, see if they have old pictures or medals they would let you use. With an American flag, some little green Army men, and military memorabilia, you'll have an awesome decoration that you made yourself. Plus, it'll be a tribute to your family members in the military. Show them you're proud of your strong military legacy.

Get your rear in gear and get military camo today!

You're old enough to have a say in how you want your room decorated. Talk to your parents about making a military retreat today. That way, when you're making a fort with your friends, you can use your military camo bedding with the couch cushions, not your little sister's old baby blanket.

Camo Baby Shower Gifts

If you're like many people, an invitation to a baby shower can either spark panic, or excitement over a baby, then panic. Baby showers usually mean gifts, and how on earth do you find a gift for a person who hasn't even been born yet?

One trend that's been catching on is decorating a nursery in camouflage. Perhaps it's because of hunting's popularity, or because camouflage is a unisex theme, so Dad and Mom can agree on it, especially if Dad and Mom are hunters themselves. And where there's nursery camo, there ought to be other baby camo items. Here are a few gift ideas for any impending baby showers that you'll be attending.

Crib camo bedding and other nursery stuff

Although some parents may have already picked out a nursery theme, they'll need a little help populating it. Baby camo bedding for the crib and other nursery-necessary items make great gifts. You can find camo dust ruffles, pillow covers, crib sheets, comforters, and fleece and jersey blankets, just to name a few ideas. Given how many different places the baby will nap, you can never have too many blankets.

A camo diaper stacker would also be a great gift. Diaper stackers are handy things, and it would be keeping with the camo theme on a more unique gift.

On the go

Whenever babies go somewhere, they require a lot of things. Bottles, diapers, diaper-changing items, extra clothes (just in case), toys and pacifiers are just a few things that need to get carted around. This is exactly why a camo diaper bag or baby tote would be a great baby shower gift. A camo diaper changing pad would match the diaper bag perfectly, and would be much appreciated by a new mother when she's got to change her baby in a public restroom.

Give something personal

Getting a baby a little camo hat is cute. But getting a baby a little camo hat that's been embroidered with "Daddy's Little Hunter" or "Mommy's Little Hunter"? That's not only cute, but it also adds a touch more thought to a gift that's otherwise pretty standard.

You can also get other camo items personalized, like overalls and bibs, either with a phrase or the baby's name. One great gift would be a camo Christmas stocking embroidered with the baby's name, especially if the baby shower is close to Christmas.

Don't forget the other kids

If your friends or relatives have older kids, they may feel left out by all the hubbub about the new baby. Remind them that they're still special with a little camo gift of their own, like a sweatshirt or a hat. Just remembering them a little will be a kindness, and it will help out a lot.

Infant camo is growing rapidly in popularity. If you've got fellow hunters who are soon to hear the pitter-patter of little hunter feet in their family, baby camo gifts will be just the thing. They may not be able to take their littlest ones out camping immediately, but with baby camo gifts, babies will be ready for the hunting cabin before they're walking.

Fishing Notebooks: Making the Right Choice

For you and many others, fishing trips are more than a vacation. They're a serious hobby, something to share with families and fishing buddies alike. You have a weather-beaten, 20-year-old box filled with all kinds of lures from all kinds of trips for all kinds of fish. You have the best fish you've caught mounted on the walls of your home.

It's for fishermen (and women) like you that fishing notebooks were created.

Why would you want a fishing notebook?

A fishing notebook is basically a journal for every fishing trip you take. Instead of trying to remember where exactly on Lake Texoma you caught that giant catfish and which lures you used to do so, you can keep track of information like that in a fishing notebook.

Not only does it give you information for future trips, but it also saves the memories of the trips you've taken with your family and fishing buddies. Remember the time little Johnny caught his first crappie? Or that time you and your buddies broke the lake's record for a large-mouth bass? You can save those memories in your fishing notebook and share it with your friends and family.

What to look for in a fishing notebook

Like fishing lures, not all fishing notebooks are created equal. In order to have the notebook that's most effective, you should look for a few specific traits.

1) Rainproof pages. You never know how the weather will turn out. When you're going to be spending most of your day on a boat, you don't want basic white notebook paper that will turn back into tree mush if it gets a little damp. Rainproof fishing notebook pages will stand up to the wet, and you won't have to worry about your notes turning into illegible blurs.

2) A space for notes and a form for details. You need one page for detailed breakdowns and nitty-gritty information, and one blank, lined page for general notes. The detailed breakdowns should include everything: where you were (which river or lake, GPS coordinates or latitude and longitude, and the weather conditions), the time of day, what equipment you used (lures, line weight, rod), the water temperature, and, of course, what fish it was and how much it weighed.

It will also be helpful if the fishing notebook pages are perforated, with holes punched in the side so they fit nicely in a corresponding binder. The perforations will let you remove the paper from your notebook without leaving behind those annoying paper bits, and you'll be able to save your notes from previous trips somewhere other than the notebook itself.

3) Although it's not necessary, an all-weather pen can be a very convenient addition to your fishing notebook. These pens are rated to write in extreme heat and extreme cold, and you can usually find one that's able to write upside down and on wet paper. A pen like this works well for a fishing notebook, because you never know when or where you'll need to make notes.

Keep your fishing secrets safe

Fishing notebooks are a must-have accessory for any serious fisherman. It keeps a paper log of the trips you'll never forget, and gives you another way to share your passion with those you care about most. Plus, you'll always remember where you found that perfect fishing spot, or what lure you used when you caught the big one.

Decorate Your Child's Room with Military Camo Bedding

With all that's been going on in the world, people are more aware than ever about how vital the military is and how important their sacrifices are for protecting our country. One example of this appreciation is the rising popularity of military camo bedroom decorations. Many young boys have looked up to G.I. Joe and his compatriots, but now even girls are getting into the camo theme.

If your children asked to decorate their bedroom with a military camo theme, here are a few ideas for how you can help them turn it into a military retreat.

Starting with: the bed

The bed is the biggest piece of furniture in the bedroom, so whatever theme you're going for should start here. Fortunately, there are a number of different kinds of military camo bedding in different colors, so whether you're decorating for a boy or a girl, you'll be able to find a color they like.

Are they a fan of the classic olive drab? Then you can get the military camo bedding in olive. Would they rather have blue? That's also available. Do you have a little girl who would like camo, but just can't get enough of pink? Then pink camo would be a good option. There are even heart-shaped pink camo pillows to decorate your little girl's bed.

Windows and walls

The bed isn't the only place to make your theme shine true. There are also a number of creative touches for the windows and the walls to set off your military camo bedding.

If you're looking for window treatments, you could go with mosquito netting or canvas curtains, or you could find camo curtains and valances. Another idea is to combine the two, perhaps with a camo valance and then canvas for the curtains.

Creams, tans, and whites would be good paint for the walls. Those colors are not only military-influenced, but they're easy to match, especially if you're going with pink or blue camo as opposed to classic green. If you are doing classic green, you can also look to other military uniforms for paint inspiration.

If you're feeling really artistic, consider painting a military mural on one wall. You could have Army tanks or Jeeps rumbling across the wall, or maybe the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. The potential here is endless.

For wall decorations, consider making a shadow box for your child, especially if you have had friends and family members in the military. A shadow box could include the American flag, G.I. Joe action figures, postcards and pictures from friends and family members in the military, medals or fatigues from older family members, etc. Not only is it a cool decoration, but it can also preserve the memories of your loved ones who have served our country.

Decorating a child's bedroom in military camouflage is a great way to show support for our military. It's especially good if you have family members serving, and that way your kids can be reminded of their loved ones even when they're overseas. If bedroom decorating is in your future, take a look at a camo theme.

Camo Shop Celebrates Hunting Season with Camo Bedding Tips

TULSA, Okla. -- With hunting season just around the corner, hunters can spruce up their homes with camouflage bedding and décor.

Tony Brobst, president of The Camo Shop, offers tips and advice for people interested in incorporating camo bedding and décor in their homes.

"Camo bedding and décor is just one way to bring your pastime home," Brobst said. "If your wife isn't thrilled about the idea of hanging a deer's head over your bed, then you can turn to camo décor to get the look."

Millions of people enjoying hunting every year, and that may explain why camo bedding and home furnishings are becoming more and more popular. Brobst suggests starting with the bedrooms.

"Your bedrooms are hidden from the rest of the house, so you can start a theme there and see if you like it before moving to the rest of the house," Brobst said. "With camo bedding, you can make your bed the focal point of the room, and move out from there."

There are other ways to add camouflage to bedrooms aside from camo bedding. For hardwood floors, a camo rug can maintain the theme, break up the floor, and keep feet warm on cool mornings. Other accessories, like antler lamps and lighting, can add to that hunting lodge feel. The exceptionally ambitious can even add a camo ceiling fan.

"You just kind of have to test it out and see what works well," Brobst said. "Too much stuff can be overwhelming, but too little and you won't even be able to tell that you have a theme going on."

One can even add a hunting flair to the bathroom.

"Camo hand towels make a great accent to your regular bath towels," Brobst said. "That, plus a camo shower curtain or a camo toilet seat cover, can really add spark to your bathroom."

According to Brobst, the only real limits are your budget and imagination.

"You can turn your whole house into a hunting haven, or just create a themed bedroom and bathroom with camo bedding and home décor products," Brobst said. "Really, it's all just about finding the right pieces to match your desires."

Trick Your Truck with Camo Accessories

Every year, hunters travel across the country, searching for that ever-elusive 12-point buck or that perfect duck blind. And if you're spending that much time in your truck, well, it almost becomes a second home.

If you're an avid hunter, you may have thought about getting a hunting license plate cover or a deer decal. That's great, but why not go all out and really personalize your truck with camo accessories? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Starting at the back

License plate covers and hitch covers are two of the most obvious places to start. You can find a number of camo license plate covers, including some from major brands like Browning or Smith & Wesson. A good idea for a hitch cover could be one that looks like a 12 gauge shotgun shell. If that's not your cup of tea, Smith & Wesson has one that simply says "Protected by Smith & Wesson."

However, you can add more to the back of your truck besides just camo license plate covers and hitch covers. Auto magnets are always a fun decoration, with the added benefits of being removable, so that you can put them just about anywhere on your truck that you'd like. And if you're leading a caravan as you and your friends head out to the wilderness for a week of hunting, a deer magnet on your truck's tailgate will show the rest of the gang exactly who they're supposed to follow.

Inside the cab

Bring the outdoors into your truck with camo accessories like seat covers, wheel covers and floor mats. Browning has some nice rubber floor mats that not only keep your theme, but will help protect your truck's carpet from the mud and grass and everything else that you'll be dragging with you when you climb in and out. Seat covers have the same benefit of looking good while protecting the actual upholstery, which makes them and floor mats almost a necessary part of your truck's camo accessories.

Rearview mirror hangers are also a good idea. It's something simple, it matches your taste, and it can be easily removed. Ducks Unlimited has one that's – what else – a duck's head, and Buck Head has a dangling buck's head.

Moving to the front

You can also add camo decals the rear window or to the windshield. They may not have the same practical side as floor mats and seat covers, but when it comes to decorating your truck, it's more about what you enjoy than it is what will pull double-duty. Besides, what better way to display your love of hunting than with a giant Ducks Unlimited decal across your windshield?

Make your truck stand out from the pack this hunting season by adding camo accessories. You'll get a chance to personalize your vehicle and still protect it from the beating that it will undergo from hauling you around the country.

Tony Brobst is the president of The Camo Shop, which features a number of camo accessories for both your home and vehicle. They've just announced a new line of camo truck accessories, so pay them a visit at http://www.thecamoshop.com to see what they can offer you.

Encourage Your Little Hunters with Camo Bedding

September's almost here, and with it, shorter days, cooler temperatures and a new season. No, it's not just fall. It's hunting season. Time to break out the camo, clean the guns, get up at the crack of dawn, and leave civilization in search of that ever-elusive twelve-point buck.

If you're an enthusiastic hunter, chances are you've been encouraging your children in the hobby as well. And if they enjoy it half as much as you do, then they're probably eager to display their love anywhere they can: with their clothes, books, toys and even their bedroom decorations.

You may not be able to get away with pulling your kids out of school early for "Thanksgiving vacation," but you can encourage your beginner hunter by turning their bedroom into a true hunter's den.

Show your hunting pride with camo bedding

The bed is the biggest piece of any room, which by default makes it the focal point. If you're going with a theme, the bed is the best place to anchor the room and tie it together.

Camouflage bedding is a fun way to spruce up your kid's bedroom with a hunting motif, and there are a number of different camo bedding sets out there. Brands like Mossy Oak, Realtree and Advantage offer camo bedding as well as camouflage clothes in a number of their more popular styles.

Not only does camouflage bedding keep hunting on the mind even when you're at home, but it will also give your little hunters a chance to pick out the decorations for their own bedrooms. It's something they like, and it's something that they were able to do on their own, which adds a nice little thrill of independence to the bedroom decorations. That alone will be almost more valuable than redecorating.

Bedding's not all you can do

Need some extra light in the room? A lamp with a deer engraved in the metal base may be perfect. Instead of a regular old night light, why not get one with ducks painted on the faceplate? If you've thought about painting the room, why not look into a camouflage wallpaper instead, or a camouflage border to go along with the paint? If you're feeling really artistic, you could even do a wildlife mural on one wall.

If you've got antlers or turkey feathers from previous hunts, they might make good wall decorations in your child's room. You could even make shadow boxes with hunting pictures and smaller hunting trophies, like feathers, arrows or spent shells. See what your kids like, and let them make the final decision.

Let your home reflect your hobbies

Millions of people enjoy hunting as a pastime every year, and everybody should have a place at home that reflects their spirit. Help your kids show off their favorite pastime with camo bedding and décor.

Tony Brobst is the president of The Camo Shop, which specializes in everything camouflage, from clothes and accessories to home furnishings and décor. Visit them online at TheCamoShop.com to get started today on finding that perfect camo bedding for your kids.
